Un lupo vittima di bracconaggio nel Parco della Murgia Materana
A wolf's carcass was found last Friday (March 4, 2011, ed) from within a naturalist Park of the Murgia of Matera. Was immediately alerted the State Forestry Corps, arrived on location with a patrol of the control station of Matera. In all likelihood, the animal was killed in a poaching incident, the body was wounded in several parts by gunshots. The discovery concerns a specimen of a young male, as has been inferred from examination of the physical characteristics and teeth in perfect condition. The predator was perhaps in search of new hunting grounds, as usually occurs between January and March when approaching the spawning season for the young wolves born in the previous year. The carcass was seized and handed over the veterinary service of Matera for further investigations. Given the circumstances of his death, was also sent notice of the news of crime to the prosecutor of Matera, which launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the killing. The discovery of the wolf into the park, so far from the natural habitat of the mammal, is an exceptional event. The final report of its presence in the territory of Matera, in fact, dates back to 1942.

Forests are home to most of the Italian population of this rare woodpecker, considered vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of breeding birds in Italy and entered in the Alliance. I to Directive 79/409/EEC, under which areas are identified Special Protection Areas (SPAs) are part of the Natura 2000 network.
Forests of Basilicata, largely managed to trees, offrono un ambiente ideale per la sua riproduzione; la specie, infatti, ama i boschi vetusti, ricchi di alberi morti o deperienti dove nidificare o cercare gli invertebrati di cui si nutre.
Densità molto elevate si riscontrano nel Bosco di Montepiano, come anche nella Foresta di Gallipoli Cognato e in alcune Faggete dell’Appennino Lucano.
Si ritiene dunque opportuno che nella pianificazione territoriale e nell’individuazione dei piani di assestamento forestale, si tenga conto delle esigenze di questa specie, a tutti gli effetti bioindicatrice degli ecosistemi forestali.
Il Picchio rosso mezzano può essere a tutti gli effetti considerato il simbolo dell’integrità delle foreste lucane.
