Effettuato il Censimento dell'avifauna acquatica nella Riserva Naturale di San Giuliano 
Anatidae on the shores of Lago di San Giuliano On January 23, 2011 within the National IWC (International Waterbird Census), organized and coordinated by ISPRA (National Institute for the Protection and Environmental Research) was held in the Natural Reserve of San Giuliano a census of wild aquatic overwintering. The initiative, which takes place several years with local support and collaboration of the Wildlife Rescue Centre, is used to monitor in a single day, chosen as standard in un periodo definito, lo stato dell'area umida in riferimento alle specie spiccatamente acquatiche presenti.

Il conteggio è stato particolarmente difficoltoso sia per le condizioni delle acque del lago particolarmente agitate, sia per la conformazione dell'intera zona umida che si estende in questo periodo su un tratto di circa 8 km tra lago e fiume ed è caratterizzata da numerose insenature dove la fauna spesso si rifugia tra la vegetazione occultandosi alla vista.
Il conteggio è stato effettuato in modo coordinato dividendo il gruppo in due squadre che hanno lavorato, using appropriate equipment independently and then compare their own data and summarize results. The observed
aquatic species that fall within the parameters required by the IWC were 20 while the total number of specimens surveyed amounts to about 1200. Whatever the objective of this study were also surveyed 33 other aquatic species that typically were not therefore specific object of research IWC.
With the data collected, there was a substantial drop in some ducks normally present in the past with much higher numbers. Among these especially Wigeon and Teal which together do not exceed 330 units while in the two previous winters the same species far surpassed those one thousand copies, with peaks of 2-3 thousand people in some winters. There are no known causes for this decline but is believed to be linked to a range of factors including the availability and the trophic level of the lake. Should not be excluded, however, external factors (including the phenomena of poaching) of which we do not have sufficient objective evaluation.
